Irrigation Ministers meet to discuss Nile water agenda

Egyptian Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Mohamed Nasr el-Din Allam is expected to submit a report rounding up Egypt 's contribution in the recent Nile Basin Initiative summit in Addis Ababa to the Egyptian Council of Ministers.

The NBI conference, unite water ministers from the nine member states of the NBI after Recent media reports had highlighted the continued disparities between Egypt and Sudan and the five upstream members which include Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda who collaborated and signed a drafted agenda in Uganda last month, which would grant them a larger share of the Nile's water if ratified.
 
The According to reports Egyptian government officials are putting a positive turnaround on the conference. Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit will travel to Ethiopia on July 6 to discuss with his Ethiopian counterpart matters concerning water issues. The Egyptian ministries of foreign affairs, irrigation and foreign cooperation have been asked to coordinate the implementation of the agenda.
 
Hany Raslan, director of the Sudan and Nile Basin Department at the Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies, stated in a recent interview with Almasry Alyoum that "it was unlikely that Sudan 's earlier reiteration decision to freeze its NBI membership would negatively affect Egypt ".
