The arrests are the first of what is expected to be a series of detentions among MB members who called for transparency in the ongoing investigation of the killing of 28 year old Khaled Saeed, who was beaten to death by police in plain clothes. The detainees include Atef Abul Eid, Mohamed Al Arabi, Essam Sabra and Medhat Radwan.

For decades, the MB has been callling for the abolition of the emergency laws used by government against its political opponents. The law has been in force since 1981 when Mubarak assumed power after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat.
