Eyewitnesses said that confrontations between the IOF heavily armed soldiers and the unarmed civilians lasted for several hours as the soldiers fired rubber bullets and teargas bombs at the citizens who threw stones at the troops.

They noted that young men engaged the soldiers in fistfights, adding that the soldiers assaulted the youths with their rifle butts and batons.

The witnesses said that three citizens were injured when sonic bombs directly hit them while three others were treated for breathing difficulties.

They charged the IOF soldiers with deliberately firing teargas canisters into civilian homes spreading panic among the inhabitants especially children.
