MB’s Al Shater, Others Still Detained Despite Court Ruling

Egyptian Interior Ministry issued a new arrest warrant against Khairat Al Shater and 15 other Muslim Brotherhood (MB) leaders, in a continuation of the regime’s policy of intimidation and terrorism practiced against the group. Yesterday, Cairo Criminal Court issued a ruling to immediately release Al Shater, the second deputy chairman of the Muslim Brotherhood and other 15 MB leaders. The state security prosecutor refused to appeal the court decision, which led the governmnet to re-arrest al shater and his group. Al Shater was detained along with 15 MB leaders and 140 students from Al-Azhar University students on Thursday Dec., 14, 2006, on a sportive performance carried out by Al-Azhar University students . For his part, lawyer Abdul Moneim Abdul Maqsoud said in a statement to Ikhwanweb that the arrest warrant is an oppressive and unjust decision, confirming that the Egyptian regime does not respect any law or freedom. Abdul Maqsood described the current Egyptian regime as dictatorial and does not respect people, their humanity or their rights to live in a freedom and peace. |
