Despite demonstrations and international outcries against escalating police violence in Egypt , security forces continue to abuse the emergency law by intimidating citizens. The recent killing of businessman Khaled Saeed triggered angry citizens to take to the streets calling for the prosecution of police agents who had violently beaten him resulting in his death.

Security continued with the violence attacking Tamer El-Sayed Mohamed a witness in Saeed's trial who was expected to testify against the offending officers. Men threatened him forcing him to change his testimony.

The attack follows a day after demonstrators took to the streets marking 40 days after Saeed's death aimed at conveying to the Interior ministry that the people will not forget torture cases such as that of Saeed and other.

Political opposition united in the call for the 'emergency law' to be eliminated maintaining that they condemned methods used by the Interior Ministry and their security apparatus.
