Hey Omar, Its almost impossible to burn a bible in many Islamic places (eg Saudia Arabia) because its actually illegal to flash one around in public. And anyway who cares what Muslims do to a bible. It is totally disingenuous to claim Muslims have never participated in Bible burning or religious suppression against Christians. Just Google \"Muslims burn bible\" without the quotes and you will find numerous instances in Gaza, Pakistan and elsewhere of just such instances. Burning the Quran is wrong just as burning the Bible. The difference is Bible and Church burnings along with the occasional beheading of a Christian hardly get the kind of news coverage that this story is. Why don\'t you put equal effort into condemning Muslims who act out against Christians and their churches? It would be a different world indeed if Muslims took as strong a stand against their extremists as Christians do against theirs.

Nonsense - there has just been, in the last 5 minutes, a prominent news article on National BBC radio here in England - Radio Five - I\\\'ve just listened to it. I considered converting to Islam once. I read the Koran and was horrified at how it mixes evil with good. It is an awful book, and m,y personal experience in 20 countries of the middle and far east is that it has enslaved hundreds of millions of otherwise good people. It certainly has nothing to do with any concept of a good god.

The christians in america typical don't really seem to react strongly to burning of their bibles, and it happens pretty frequently. Recently the u.s. military operating in Afghanistan even burned a shipment of bibles that were sent to them by some religious group as a way to dispose of them. Also american youth rebelling against the restrictions of their society will often demean christian symbols as a form of protest against puritanical idealism. Now, if Muslims are going to be intellectual honest, the destruction of the Bamiyaan buddha's (previous to the WTC act) was a fairly more dramatic desecration of another religions sacred objects than is some backwards american preacher trying to make a name for himself by burning the Qur'an. And if you recall, buddhist didn't really get upset about that... some buddhist even redirected the focus on to the humanitarian crisis occurring in Afghanistan.

So if they were Muslims how would the media react? Apparently they wouldn't react. Apparently Muslims get to freely express their religious intolerance without repercussions but when Americans decide to express their intolerance, the Western media is all over it. I'm not really sure why you're complaining. The western media you seem to despise so vehemently seems to give Muslims a "get out of jail free" card whilst the rest of western society has to live up to a different standard of acceptable behavior.

The explosive incident has forced the East Preston Islamic College to call in a senior imam to tell its 650 Muslim students that the Bible and Christianity must be respected. Anxious teachers at the school have also petitioned principal Shaheem Doutie, expressing "grave concern" about an "inculcation of hatred and radical attitudes towards non-Muslims" at the school, including towards non-Muslim teachers. The Bible desecration took place last week at a school camp held near Bacchus Marsh, about 50km west of Melbourne, attended by 33 teenage Muslim boys ranging in age from Year7 to Year 10. A school report of the incident, obtained by The Australian, says it happened late at night and involved three students and another two watching. "The main perpetrator (a Year 7 student) urinated on the Holy Bible, tore some pages from the Holy Book and burnt them then finally spat on the Holy Book," the report says. The second boy, from Year 9, "tore pages from the Holy Book and burnt them", while a third student, from Year 7, "tore pages from the Holy Bible and then he rolled it up like a cigarette and pretended to smoke it". The boys come from a variety of ethnic Muslim backgrounds -- one is believed to be an Albanian/Malaysian, another Lebanese and another Indonesian. Mr Doutie, whose school receives about $3.9 million in state and federal government funding each year, told The Australian yesterday that both he and the school community were appalled by the Bible desecration and that he had expelled the first two boys and suspended the third. In a letter to all staff on Monday, Mr Doutie wrote: "The school unconditionally apologises for this horrible act as conducted by some illiterate and ignorant students while under the care of EPIC teachers. "We regard the desecration of the Bible in a very serious light and therefore we have taken serious action against the offenders. "The Bible is an important book both for non-Muslims and Muslims and should be treated as a holy book by all religions." Mr Doutie said he did not believe that the boys realised the significance of their act. But to ensure it did not happen again he had called in the assistant imam of the Newport Mosque, Oman Haouli, to tell the students that the Bible was a sacred book. "My lesson to them was to respect their neighbours and respect all religions," Mr Haouli said yesterday. But the desecration incident has shaken the nerves of the school's teachers, about half of whom are non-Muslim. A petition signed by 22 teachers expressed "anguish and dismay at the grave incident of the desecration of the Holy Bible". "This whole incident implies a deep hatred inculcated in the students towards the Christians/non-Muslim teachers," it says. The petition said there had been "previous incidents of students misbehaving towards non-Muslim teachers". It called on the school to "take steps to rectify this explosive situation" to ensure the safety of teachers. There is a theological conflict with Christianity because we happen to believe it is blasphemy to say that any human was the Son of God, but it should be a peaceful conflict." The 2003 video shows Mr Green warning that if Muslim children attended non-Muslim schools "they will be destroyed - you think you live in a sewer and you come up smelling roses?" But yesterday he said he was mystified by those comments, saying he changed his mind on the issue "well before 2003". Mr Green, who works as a full-time "outreach officer" for London Central Mosque, lectures on Islam to about 10,000 non-Muslim students a year. The father of 10 describes himself as socially conservative - his wife chooses to wear a niqab face veil - but says the main political criticism he attracts is from hardliners saying he is too moderate. According to an unnamed source, as he entered the room he saw the Iranian president on his knees in front of al Sadr, underneath al sadrs robe..Once the informant was noticed the leaders began to move about as if there was nothing going on. The Burning of the Quran or the Bible

I wish I was not so late getting into this discussion as this is a very important one. I would like to add that I live in a very rural country location in the US and even I heard about that man who was planning on burning the Quran. Many of us were very upset about this and put the pressure on for it not to happen. It is not right for any of us to dis respect anyone\'s beliefs and books. I for one would never let it happen if I can help it and I would always speak against such things. The Muslims and Christians need to unite and stand together - not apart. Everyone knew about the PROPOSED burning of the qur'ans and was even discussed in my local school. A book is a book- granted, burning a religious text is a grossly insulting thing to those who follow its teachings, but a book can be replaced- the religion should be in the hearts of its believers. As for the hypothetical 'what happens to Bibles in Saudi Arabia?' question, that is simply an attempt to stir up trouble. The fact of the matter is, if it is against Saudi law to display a Bible in public, or own one, or whatnot, that.is.the.law. Period. If a Christian group doesn't like the law, it can go somewhere else or take their chances with the Saudi police and courts. As for burning the Qur'an or the Torah or the Bible, I would never do such a thing out of spite; to do so is deliberately troublesome and not in keeping with the spirit of brotherhood we are supposed to be maintaining with our brothers and sisters of other faiths. But, in the end, what is being burned is only a book- books can be replaced very quickly. As I said earlier, faith is in the heart- not on paper. If burning paper reduces a person's faith in God, maybe they need to re-examine their faith. Brother and sister Muslims, do not let yourselves fall into that trap.

I was under the impression that the Muslim faith incorporated the Bible as parts in the Koran, If this is the case would you not say it would be radical to Burn this Holy book? Also this again shows the Muslim Faith is very confrontational, It is what drove the crusades. Mohammed himself as a man according to what I read in the Koran would make him a brown Archie Bunker. Maybe I need Enlightening on the Mohammed you pray too, would Martyr for, and hold as the Lords son. If anything I would say the Christians and the Muslims are climbing an uphill battle with the Jew Religion which runs the world and claims both or our Prophets as fictitious. I need the date of Mohammed's days so I can do more research. Also Muslim often use the word infidel to identify a lot of people such as myself who are not Muslim, the definition of "Infidel" is one without Religion, That is not the case with 90% of those who Muslims categorize as faithless infidels, We are Christians, not without Religion. If Mohammed was stuck in a room with only two other's, one Jew and one Christian who do you think Mohammed would conversation with the most? The Christian? and the Jew?
