Egyptians are to mourn a new victim of the episodes of violence and brutality unleashed by the notorious Egyptian police force. 42 year old Ahmed Hamdan was killed yesterday and 20 others injured in the latest confrontation with the security forces whose main responsibility has become to protect the regime and the ruling class’s interests even at the expense of the lives of the average Egyptian citizen. Hamdan and his 20 countrymen of Kafr Turk (20 miles south of Greater Cairo) weren’t a part of a terrorist organization or even members of any political opposition…they were simple Egyptians who have done nothing but objected to the construction of a cell phone tower in their small hometown. The police was called in to deal with the protestors on behalf of Orascom Telecom (owner of Mobinil Network) who obviously couldn’t have cared less for the protestors’ health concerns…not to mention their lives. It is outrageous to say the least that the police force which is supposed to protect the citizens has become the hired assassin for regime parasites such as Naguib Sawiris (CEO of Orascom Telecom) who wouldn’t mind to forgo the lives of a dozen more of those poor citizens just to promote his personal business interests.

Another fatal wound in Egypt’s body took place yesterday…Hamdan won’t be the last victim of the police violence against the average and poor citizens as the lives of these people have become so cheap. Indeed it is very revealing how the incumbent regime greats its people in the beginning of 2007…the message is clear: there is no more room for the poor!
