Eng. Al Shater, 36 Others Jailed 15 More Days

Cairo-based Higher State Security Prosecution prolonged, on Wednesday Jan. 24, 2007, provisional detentions on 37 Muslim Brotherhood leaders, including Eng. Khairat Al Shater, the deputy chairman of the group.

Cairo-based Higher State Security Prosecution prolonged, on Wednesday Jan. 24, 2007, provisional detentions on 37 Muslim Brotherhood leaders, including Eng. Khairat Al Shater, the deputy chairman of the group.

The detainees include:

Dr. Mahmoud Ahmed Abu Zeid, a surgery professor at Al-Qasr Al-Aini faculty of medicine.

Dr. Mohamed Baligh, a professor in Giza conjunctivitis institute.

Eng. Ayman Abdul Ghani.

Journalist Ahmed Ezzuddin.

Accountant Mostafa Salem.

Eng. Mamdouh Al Husseini.

Yasser Abdou, the Secretary-General of Giza Trade syndicate.

Dr. Essam Abdul Mohsen, a biochemistry professor in the Faculty of Medicine, Al-Azhar University.

Dr. Farid Galbat, a professor in the Faculty of Sharia and Law, Al-Azhar University.

Sadek Al Sharqawi, a businessman.

Eng. Mahmoud Al Morsi.

Fathi Baghdadi Al-Masaei school principal.

Sayed Maarouf, a manager in Omar Effendi Co.

Dr. Salah Al Desouki, an anatomy professor at Al-Azhar faculty of medicine.

Gamal Shaaban, an accountant.

Student Sohaib Shawkat Al Malt, the Secretary-General of Al-Azhar University’s Free Student Union .

For his part, Abdul Monem Abdul Maqsoud, the MB lawyer, raised his eyebrows at the prosecution’s decision of prolonging the jail after ending all investigations since the MB detainees were arrested, confirming that it is an oppressive decision, specially that the MB detained weren’t convicted in the investigations and that releasing them will not harm the course of investigations .

Abdul Maqsood attributed this decision to the government’s crackdown against the Muslim Brotherhood, the biggest opposition group in the Egyptian Parliament, and amid the aggravating tensions between the MB and the regime during last period.
 
 It is worth mentioning that the prosecution is prolonging the jail of the MB detainees for the third consecutive time, 45 days after arresting them.
