The Assistant Secretary General for the Muslim Brotherhood parliamentary bloc, Dr. Hamdy Hassan, submitted a question to the Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif regarding the continuous power outages over seven major Egyptian cities

Hassan stressed that Egypt normally produces more electricity than it needs, and the surplus is exported. He demanded an investigation into the power outages, which were reported to be caused by shortage of natural gas supply that keeps the generators running to produce electricity, at a time when Egypt exports the valuable gas to Israel. Hassan stressed that the government must stop gas exports to Israel and makes it available to for electricity production in order to meet the increasing domestic demands in hospitals, factories, worship places, houses and other places.
