The State Security Police in Monofiya arrested a number of supporters of Egyptian parliamentarians, in a crackdown that the security services have launched several months ago and still continues. The northern Egyptian governorate of Monoufia, the birth place of president Mubarak and a big number of the ruling National Party leaders, is considered an important stronghold for the ruling regime. This dictatorial regime was stunned when the Muslim Brotherhood candidates won six seats there in the last legislative elections . It is worth mentioning that these detentions are a part of a severe crackdown that the Egyptian regime is carrying out against the Muslim Brotherhood group and its leaders. The MB, the biggest opposition group in Egyptian Parliament, attributes this crackdown to ratifying the constitutional amendments. The number of MB detainees out of this campaign reached about 400 detainees topped by Eng. Khayrat Al Shater, the second deputy chairmanand Dr. Mohamed Ali Beshr, a member of the MB executive bureau, in addition to another number of MB leaders. |
