Fourteen supporters from the Muslim Brotherhood group were suspended from universities in Banha, Kafr al-Sheikh and Helwan after they were found distributing leaflets and posting banners welcoming new students. An additional 14 students have also been referred for interrogation for what was described as related reasons.

The measures practiced against students were perceived as a premature action to abort any attempt made by the MB students from the impending student body elections.

Twelve students from Helwan University’s School of Engineering were also referred for interrogation, for holding a celebration of the new academic year. Two students were also suspended from Kafr al-Sheik. Banha’s students as well, were suspended for campaigning activities. In Fayoum a warning was issued to students against performing any political activities on university grounds.
