According to Osama Al-Sheikh, director of the state-run Egyptian Radio and Television Union , re-runs of the controversial Muslim Brotherhood TV series "The group" aired in the month of Ramadan, will be postponed until after the country's parliamentary elections which is scheduled to take place in late November.

The decision was made so as not to influence voters, after accusations were made that the series was aired to tarnish the group's image. The series was written and claims to cite the life story of Imam Hassan al-Banna, the popular Muslim Brotherhood group's founder.   Egypt 's largest opposition movement has confirmed its plans to field candidates in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

The series' writer, Wahid Hammed, supported the decision adding that “According to the contract, the series cannot be re-run until three months after its initial broadcast".
