Interior Minister, Habeeb El Adly, has announced that applications for candidacy in Egypt’s upcoming parliamentary elections will be effective from Wednesday, November 3 through to Sunday, November 7 with 5 pm deadline.

This follows the president’s decree that Mubarak has set Sunday, November 28, as election day. Any cases of re-election in Egypt's constituencies are scheduled for December 5. Despite assurances of integrity during the elections given by the ruling party’s officials, security forces have engaged in massive arrests of political opposition members mainly from the country’s strongest and most popular opposition, the Muslim Brotherhood.

Numerous domestic and international human rights organizations have publicly condemned these measures calling on the regime to conduct free, fair and transparent elections and to allow the people to freely voice their opinion without the customary rigging.
