Media spokesman and head of Muslim Brotherhood (MB) Parliamentary bloc, Dr. Mohamed Saad el-Katatni, stated that the MB have started submitting their election papers at the various security headquarters throughout the country. Judicial bodies are against this and legal measures will be taken against this illegal action.

He pointed out that the Supreme Committee for Elections gave away its responsibility to the Interior Ministry when it allowed applications to be submitted at security headquarters instead of being submitted in primary courts.Katatni explained that security headquarters are under the administrative authorities controlled by the national ruling party which is a competitor in this election. This necessarily threatens the independence of the Supreme Committee for Elections.

On Wednesday, November 3, official procedures for parliamentary elections began and security headquarters all over the country continue to receive over 4500 candidates to run for 508 seats, including 46 seats for women.

Candidates of the MB have been attacked many times by the Interior Ministry in Egypt. Their money has been confiscated, leaders and supporters have been arrested and their businesses have been destroyed. Moreover, hate complaints have been submitted against MB candidates.
