The High Elections Commission in Egypt announced the list of 5720 accepted parliamentary candidates who submitted applications from Wednesday through to Sunday. The total, which included 132 women, are expected to field in the polls scheduled for November 28.

Muslim Brotherhood members were able to submit 134 candidates, including 14 women.

The ruling NDP witnessed fierce competition and those who were denied nomination may prove problematic for the party by running as independents, similar to what happened in 2005. Sources reveal that the NDP's election list was dominated by "old guard" party figures, ministers, and businessmen.
