In an unprecedented incident, the misdemeanor court in Alexandria issued an unexpected and shocking court order to 12 members of the Muslim Brotherhood.

A two-year prison sentence with hard labor was issued to the group after being leveled with a host of accusations including organizing marches and rallies and posting signs and banners in favour of MB parliamentary candidates.

Analysts highlight that the current measures practiced against the MB members, campaigners and supporters and the extremely harsh and unjust sentence, indicate heightened hostilities and a vendetta against the group.

Observers describe the sentence as an abuse of authority by court officials, stressing that the MB detainees were practicing nothing more than their basic and most simplest rights; freedom of speech and opinion.
