NDP monopolises parliament after MB and Wafd boycott poll
Constitutional jurist, Ibrahim Darwish, said the Muslim Brotherhood and the Wafd Party's decision to withdraw from the second round of voting will probably not affect the parliament's legitimacy but it will restore the National Democratic Party (NDP) to Nasser's Arab Socialist Union, which took over 90% of elected seats in the absence of all political parties.

In a dialogue with journalist Gaber El Armouti, aired on his talk show Headline on OTV satellite channel, he stressed that court decisions on the invalidity of Egypt's parliamentary results in some districts and harassment against independent candidates when enlisting their names on electoral rolls must be implemented to preserve Egypt's status because the judiciary is the only power with the right to preserve the country's stability.

He also added that the parties entered the legislative polls after President Hosni Mubarak reassured that the country's November 28 parliamentary elections would be free and transparent, but he reneged on his promise.

The Democratic Front Party's decision to boycott the elections because of the absence of judicial overseeing is the only party that avoided the irregularities and abuse that took place during the vote.
