In a recent interview with Al-masry al Youm, former IAEA chief, Dr. Mohamed El-Baradei, highlighted a number of the pressing questions concerning the National Association for Change (NAC). He discussed his role as a reformer, indicating that he was not a hero who would save Egypt, but an individual who urged the necessity of civil but peaceful disobedience and protest in much greater numbers.
 
During the interview El-Baradei tackled criticisms that he spends too much time abroad and does not participate directly enough in opposition activity. He maintained that he believed his power lay in his international media profile and that he was using it to his advantage. He also addressed the NAC's ongoing signature drive, his vision of a transitional post-Mubarak period, and tactics for protest.
 
When asked about the country's strongest political opposition the Muslim Brotherhood's participation in the elections, he highlighted that despite not agreeing with their initial participation he fully understood their reasons. He stressed that the MB had every right to participate and that they were a significant element on the political scene. He also advocated their call for peaceful political change.
 
El-Baradei noted that stability would never come until a democratic system was attained, adding that democracy was not just a luxury; it was the only way to achieve stability, moderation, modernity and social justice.
