Alliance for AEA, Europeans Demand to Change Article 76 and to Nominate a Single Candidate for Presidency

Peaceful democratic transition in Egypt, the presidential elections and the unity of opposition forces were among issues discussed at a conference devoted to it and organized recently in the Egyptian Wafd Party headquarters by a number of party leaders in association with the Alliance of expatriate Egyptians in Europe and Egyptian Americans (AEA).

Peaceful democratic transition in Egypt, the presidential elections and the unity of opposition forces were among issues discussed at a conference devoted to it and organized recently in the Egyptian Wafd Party headquarters by a number of party leaders in association with the Alliance of Expatriate Egyptians in Europe and Egyptian Americans (AEA).
 
"They discussed the odds to democracy in Egypt represented in the ruling regime's policy, security, a leader who has been in power for nearly 30 years, Islamic and Christian religious trends, decorative opposition parties, whom they had hoped would lead the change and who have not been able to submit candidates in the presidential election," AEA coordinator Sabri al-Baga said after the meeting.
 
The AEA coordinator noted: "We believe that the parties should agree on one candidate in the presidential election, and we must unite all the opposition groups and use their forces to change Article 76 of the Constitution, which places restrictions on true free presidential elections." He also stressed that the alliance is devoted to support political powers wishing to bring about change in Egypt.
 
A meeting attended by leaders of the Wafd Party, Ahmed Azab Al Arab, a member of the party's supreme body, Margaret Azar, Husam Al-Kholi, AEA Director Mahmoud al-Shazly, secretary-general Mukhtar Kamel and President of the Egyptian Alliance for Egyptian expatriates in Europe Munir Shahin, discussed the right of Egyptians abroad to vote in the election.
