Five MB Leaders Served Sentences Ranging up to Eight Years Despite Previous Acquittals

Five senior members of Egypt’s popular Muslim Brotherhood have been unjustly convicted of money laundering and raising funds abroad in what has become known in the media as “The MB international networking case”.

Five senior members of Egypt’s popular Muslim Brotherhood have been unjustly convicted of money laundering and raising funds abroad in what has become known in the media as “The MB international networking case”.

A three-year-prison sentence was served to Dr. Ossama Suleiman the only defendant present during the hearing. The four other defendants, including Saudi national, Awad el Qarany, were served sentences ranging from 5-8 years as they were tried in absentia. The other defendants include Ashraf Abdul Ghafar, Wagdi Ghoneim and Ibrahim Munir.

The group was levelled with a host of fabricated accusations, including money laundering, financing Brotherhood activities and raising money through conferences in England under the pretext that the funds were for Islamic charities.
 
It is worth noting that the group has been previously acquitted twice for lack of evidence from the Civil Court in the same case where over 30 other MB members who were also accused in the case were released

The ruling cannot be appealed.
