Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf apologised on Monday following the crackdown on demonstrators in Cairo over the people by vowing to seek a judicial investigation.
The army’s crackdown on protesters came after another Friday of contestation where hundreds of thousands of Egyptians assembled in Tahrir to take part in what was the biggest demonstration following the dictator Mubarak’s step-down.
During his televised speech Sharaf stated that the people, the army and the government, feel regret for the events of last Saturday.
He announced that he had called on the minister of justice to take the necessary steps towards investigating the incident.
Asked about Mubarak’s recorded statement where he alleged he and his family were not guilty of corruption, he confirmed that legal procedures are going ahead.
Egypt's public prosecutor had summoned Mubarak on Sunday as part of probes into the killing of protesters and the embezzlement of public funds.
