During a three-day visit to Egypt, Slovakia’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Mikuláš Dzurinda, met with the former Secretary General of the Arab League, Amr Mousa, and Mansour el-Essawi, the Egyptian Interior Minister to discuss developments in Egyptian society and exchange their views on the present-day situation in the Middle East. Minister Dzurinda also met with Nabil El-Araby, and offered Slovakia's transformational experiences in the fields of politics, economy and civil society.

During his meeting Dzurinda commended the Egyptians' courage and determination, and called on them to remain patient since reform is not an overnight process.

He reminded the people not to raise their standards too high as their country is in the delicate process of managing the post-revolution situation. He stressed that the path towards freedom is a difficult one, and requires satisfying the legitimate thirst for democracy and taking necessary steps towards democracy, freedom of speech, and respect for the law.

Dzurinda highlighted that he believed the Muslim Brotherhood is entitled to share its experiences and become an active part of the country’s future, citing that neither he nor his country fear the group, believing they are an active element. Describing them as a democratic people, Dzurinda said that the MB has reiterated that it is not after power and will respect the people’s will, something he believed the authorities should put into practice, 'Give them a chance' he said 'since democracy preaches freedom for all'.
