Following the violence and clashes in Tahrir Tuesday, the Interior Ministry released a statement stressing that any attempts to storm their headquarters will be regarded as unlawful acts and sabotage. The statement follows the violent conflict which took place between police officials and protesters. Conflicting reports by press sources have been released on the reasons behind the protest. According to some reports the clashes come as a demand for the swift trial of former regime members, while others deemed it a gathering of those in solidarity with the martyr families that lost relatives during the revolution. According to the Ministry’s statements while all police officers have been removed from Tahrir Square , they will not deal with any further violations lightly adding they are currently investigating the source of the conflict and plan to announce it as soon as possible. The statement ended with appeals to the Egyptians not to be tricked by rumors seeking to divide people, cause sedition between police authorities under the veneer of defending martyrs' rights. It also stressed that the government fully respects the families of victims of the revolution. |
