In a bid to confirm intentions of strengthening ties between Copts and Muslims, a delegation from Marmina Gerges Church visited the Muslim Brotherhood’s headquarters in al-Zawya al-Hamra district on Monday and extended warm wishes for the Eid. They also met with members from the group’s Freedom and Justice Party.

Both groups united in solidarity and agreed to meet, unite and discuss further issues concerning the community, scheduling a later date for Tuesday, September 6 to agree on projects to develop the impoverished area of al-Zawya al-Hamra in Cairo and its services.

They blamed the former regime for the existing sedition during Mubarak’s regime stating that much effort was made to hinder the unity between the factions. The Copts welcomed the initiative forwarded by the MB and policies proposed by members of the FJP to join the party and work for reform.

MB representative Mahmoud Shaaban and FJP leaders Mohamed Salama and Kamal Mahdy attended the meeting and met with the Copts representatives from the Church and the city council, Nageh Kamel, Gerges Gaber, and Adel Nathmy.
