In a statement to IkhwanWeb, Jamal Tajuddin, Secretary General of the Freedoms Committee of the Egyptian Bar Association and leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, called upon the Egyptian Public Prosecutor to challenge the ruling of the Alexandria Criminal Court - headed by Justice Moussa al-Nahrawy – today Wednesday 26, to jail two police officers for only 7 years for killing young Khaled Said, whose killing helped fuel Egyptian revolution. Tajuddin told IkhwanWeb "The Court considered the crime of Khaled Said’s killers to be ‘grievous bodily harm’ that led to death, and therefore they passed this sentence, although it is well known that during the reign of former Interior Minister Habib El-Adli and the ousted regime torture was a pervasive regular practice, a matter of policy, which must carry a stiffer and heavier sentence."
The Brotherhood leader added: "This ruling is unfair and must be reviewed immediately by the Egyptian Public Prosecutor, because the judiciary’s assessment of the case was improper."
Tajjudin expected anger and frustration in Egypt to increase as a result of the sentence passed today against the killers of Khaled Said, and urged officials to quickly deal with the situation according to the rule of law and the sovereignty of justice, and maintain the people's freedoms and rights. |
