Independence of Judiciary Leader: New Parliament Structure Supports our Demands

Hisham Geneina, Cairo Appeals Court President and a leader of the movement ‘Independence of the Judiciary in Egypt’, said that he has great confidence in the composition of the new parliament with regard to achieving independence for the judiciary in Egypt.

Hisham Geneina, Cairo Appeals Court President and a leader of the movement ‘Independence of the Judiciary in Egypt’, said that he has great confidence in the composition of the new parliament with regard to achieving independence for the judiciary in Egypt.

He stressed, in a statement, that the new parliament structure supports the judges’ demands for full independence and recognizes its importance for the judiciary.

For his part, Jamal Hanafi, former member of the Egyptian Bar Association and a Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) MP: "I do not doubt that this demand will be among the list of priorities adopted by the FJP in parliament. There needs to be a full and comprehensive review of the three authorities in Egypt, with adoption of strict separation between them. Each authority must maintain its full independence, especially the Judiciary. Also of great importance is the balance between all the authorities: none of them should impinge on the other ".

In a statement to IkhwanWeb, Hanafi added: "We endeavoured in the 2005 Parliament, through the Muslim Brotherhood parliamentary bloc, and presented draft laws, at the time, in support of the independence of the judiciary. We will continue, through the FJP, in the new parliament, to support these draft laws, and we will hold sessions with the judges to complete the picture and come up with draft laws in the interest of the independence of the judiciary, that find consensus ".
