Dr. Mohamed Morsi, Chairman of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) said that the party does not have any reservations against dealing with the IMF or any other international institution where Egypt is a member. He pointed out that the FJP would certainly accept any help from these institutions in any way that would serve public interests, especially in implementing plans for developing Egyptian economy and achieving the hoped-for growth. This came during a meeting, on Monday 19 March 2012, at FJP headquarters in Cairo, between Dr. Morsi and an International Monetary Fund delegation which is reviewing the latest developments related to the loan requested by the Egyptian government, worth $3.2 billion.
Dr. Mohamed Morsi stressed that the Egyptian government has not yet submitted a plan of economic measures relating to the loan, and that the FJP does not have the required information about the real requirements of Egypt’s general budget, how this loan will be used, or how it will be paid off. He mentioned that the loan will be a burden on shoulders of the Egyptian people, who have the right to know how it will be spent and how it will be paid off.
The meeting was attended by Abdel-Hafiz Al-Sawi, the FJP’s economic team leader as well as Ahmed Al-Najjar, Mohamed Gouda and Nagi Hindi, members of the FJP’s economic team. |
