Khairat Al-Shater, the Freedom and Justice Party and Muslim Brotherhood’s candidate in Egypt's upcoming presidential elections, following the decision of the Supreme Presidential Electoral Commission (SPEC) to disqualify and exclude him, said: "The issue is not who will run. What matters is safeguarding freedoms and the continuation of the revolution".

In a tweet posted on his Twitter account, Al-Shater said: "We will not give up freedom".

Earlier, Mukhtar Ashri, President of the Legal Committee of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), said that, in the next few hours, his Committee will submit a formal grievance against the decision of SPEC, in accordance with SPEC procedures.
