Dr. Mohamed Morsi, Chairman of the Freedom and Justice Party and candidate for the presidency, voiced his vigorous condemnation of the attack on protesters in front of the Egyptian Ministry of Defense. Dr. Morsi further said he held the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) and security agencies responsible for the safety of peaceful protestors and the protection of their right to peaceful expression of their views. Moreover, Dr. Morsi warned of any repeats of such attacks on peaceful protesters, asserting that Egypt and its revolution and its people are the real losers in these clashes. Dr. Morsi called on the Public Prosecutor to take urgent action to investigate this crime and bring perpetrators to trial promptly so as not to make Egypt fertile ground for chaos and lawlessness. Furthermore, Dr. Morsi affirmed that the January 25 revolution opened the doors of freedom wide for Egyptians to express their views peacefully. “It is totally unacceptable that anyone should undermine the right of the people to exercise their freedom, for which Egyptians paid a heavy price with the blood of honorable martyrs and wounded revolutionaries.”
