Sayed Darwish, the Muslim Brotherhood’s Art Committee official, affirmed that President Morsi’s Thursday meeting with a number of artists is a distinct step forward in pursuit of opening horizons of communication with the world of art and artists in Egypt.

Darwish underscored the important role played by art and artists, assuring that art is the locomotive of progress and a power that indirectly influences the country's culture and the behavior of its people.

"Differences with some artists regarding their approach to art will not hinder fulfillment of the honorable artistic objectives we have.

"Everyone has the freedom to express their style, ideas and art, as long as they do not deviate from the moral code of ethics which should be set by the industry itself."

Earlier, Egypt’s newly-elected President Mohamed Morsi invited the country’s artists for a discussion about the role required of art and artists in the coming stage of modern Egypt’s progress, and their perceptions about the best methods for action to transform and develop Egyptian art, and to launch Egypt back in its leadership position in the art world.
