Dr. Hasan al Hayawan, prominent MB leader and professor of Medicine at Al Zagazig University, died in his home on Saturday November 18, 2006, apparently from a heart attack, although the exact cause of death is yet to be known. Funeral procession and prayers will be held on Sunday in his home village of Al Rawda in Sharkya governorate.

Mr. Mohamed Mahdi Akef, the Chairman of the Muslim Brotherhood, mourned the loss of Dr. Al Hayawan which he called a tremendous a loss for the Muslim Brotherhood. Mr. Akef praised Dr. Al Hayawan steadfastness throughout his life, but most notably during his recent ordeal with the government which fabricated a case against him but was thrown away in court twice. Mr. Akef described Dr. Al Hayawan as "true Muslim and chrismatic leader who will always be remembered for his devotion and his hard work"

Dr. Al Hayawan was recently acquitted by court on two different occasions from all charges brought against him by the government, which accused him of allegedly possessing large amount of ammunition and attacking judges and voters in recent parliamentary elections. The charges were proven  groundless and politically motivated and Dr. Al Hayawan was consequently aquitted by court. The government released Dr. Al Haywan in September only to detain him again few days later using the emergency laws and charging him with the same crimes. Another court, which retried Dr. Al Hayawan on November 12, acquitted him for the second time on November 15, and immediately during the first session. Dr. Al Hayawan was released but this time he died few days later.

Ikhwanweb offers its deep condolences to Dr. Al Hayawan’s family and his followers. We pray to God to accept him among the prophets and martyrs for all of his sacrifices and the sufferings he endured at the hands of this corrupt and oppressive Egyptian regime, which shows complete disregard to human life.
