Sobhi Saleh, member of the Constituent Assembly (CA) tasked with writing Egypt’s new Constitution, said the most important issue in the Constitution is the final product to be ultimately issued by the CA, stressing that the constitution contains no ‘religious’ article calling for a theocracy in Egypt.

In a press statement, Saleh pointed that the Constitution has 230 articles, none of which seeks to establish a religious state. He also affirmed that the people are the only source of authority.

“No-one should impose his will, influence or power on the people. Why do dubious individuals and players seek to distort and subvert or undermine the CA and other institutions’ work?”
