The Presidential Office in Cairo reiterated that Egypt did not withdraw from the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, and that it is still committed to all its obligations towards this Treaty.

Omar Amer, a spokesman for the presidency, said that the withdrawal of the Egyptian delegation from the work of the Preparatory Committee for the Review Conference of the NPT came after the delegation found a lack of seriousness of some of the parties concerned to implement what had been agreed upon in the 2010 Review Conference, regarding the convening of an international conference on making the Middle East an area free of nuclear weapons and all weapons of mass destruction.
