In a press statement, Dr. Essam El-Erian, deputy head of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), said: "The US position on the Syrian people’s revolution translates politically and strategically in the process of formulating the new role of the US. What matters for the US now is its own security and economic interests, before defending any values or freedoms.

"The US position is a departure from the European position and the regional alliance that sponsors the war on terror since Egypt and Tunisia’s revolutions and subsequent events."

Dr. Erian pointed that what matters for the US now is to establish better relations with China and Russia, and that it does not care to meet the wishes of its old allies in the Middle East.
