At the Shura Council’s plenary meeting Wednesday, Mohamed Abdel-Maguid Al-Fiqi, Chairman of the Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs, said: "There are no changes to the Ministry of Culture’s budget for the fiscal year 2013-2014.

"To those who circulate rumors claiming that I’m removing whole items from the budget of the Ministry of Culture and that I am against culture, I say: the budget of the Ministry of Culture is intact. It has not been changed or reduced in any way at all."

Al-Fiqi added, "We are determined to encourage Egyptian culture to flourish, just as we are keen to maintain and improve good relations between us and Egypt’s intellectuals and artists".
