In a press statement, Dr. Helmi Al-Gazzar, Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) leading figure, said that the demand for early presidential elections in Egypt is pushing for a leap into the deep dark pit of the unknown, adding that there are many people who are waiting for this moment, fearing for a disastrous collapse of the democratic experience, and not for any particular individual.

"I suggest the Independent Commission (referred to by the President in his recent speech) should be promptly set up to manage the national reconciliation issue. That Commission should include Al-Azhar Grand Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayeb and Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of Saint Mark Episcopate.

"Saying that President Mohamed Morsi is like ousted president Mubarak is certainly most unfair. There has been, so far, only one year of Morsi rule, as opposed to the 30 years of Mubarak rule. Also, Morsi has a ‘contract’ with the people, granted to him through the ballot-box."
