Ministry of Health Announces 20 Dead, 380 Wounded in Massacre of Pro-Morsi Demonstrators

A massacre of pro-democracy, pro-Morsi demonstrators, described as the second ‘Battle of the Camel’, armed thugs attacked a march with machine guns, as police forces fired teargas canisters at the innocent demonstrators.

Dr. Yahya Moussa, Egyptian Ministry of Health spokesman, revealed that the perimeter of Cairo University witnessed a real massacre the like of which Egypt has never seen for years past, where more than 20 martyrs fell and 380 citizens were injured.

Dr. Moussa said that the number of deaths and injuries is still likely to rise and that most injuries are very serious, caused by live bullets that targeted victims’ chests and abdomen, and could not have been random.

Separately, Dr. Mohamed Beltagy, member of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP)’s Executive Bureau, placed the full responsibility of the massacre on the shoulders of the armed forces and the Interior Ministry, since it is their inherent responsibility to protect the demonstrators without discrimination, stressing the need to arrest the thugs and those who protect them as they launch their deadly attacks.

He condemned attempts to disperse supporters of the President at Nahda Square by force, using thugs. He pointed that those who do so fail to learn the lessons of history.

Dr. Beltagy added, "This is the second massacre of ‘Battle of the Camel’, amid complicity and collaboration by the police and silence from the armed forces regarding the killing of peaceful pro-legitimacy demonstrators who left Tahrir Square, Itehadia Palace and Qubba Palace, and headed away at Nahda Square and Rabaa Al-Adaweya, to avoid potential clashes.

"They were abandoned by everyone, as 18 martyrs fell – so far – and hundreds were injured. They were ignored by the army’s hovering helicopters, TV cameras, and even ambulances."
