The Muslim Brotherhood and the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) condemned a reported attempt on a commander of the Second Army in Sinai, stressing their steadfast rejection of violence and their commitment to peace.

The Brotherhood reaffirmed that the principle of peacefulness is one of its basic constants, not only a political principle, since it is an inviolable religious and legal doctrine.

In a statement Thursday, the Brotherhood said: "We are confident that popular will and peaceful protests will triumph over force, oppression, injustice, the desperate attempt to obscure facts, the deluge of lies and fabrications, and the military dictatorship hiding behind a group of civilians, just that will was victorious in its January 25, 2011 Revolution.

Separately, Hussein Ibrahim, FJP Secretary-General, affirmed that the party categorically denounces use of violence in the expression of rejection of the military coup.

Ibrahim condemned the reported shooting incident on the Second Army commander, pointing that this was a serious deterioration and a sign that the country is sliding fast into a spiral of violence and instability, which the FJP rejected completely.
