Under military rule, anti-coup Egyptians are arrested on contrived charges, thrown in jail without trial, put in solitary confinement simply out of spite, and their essential health needs are completely ignored.

The official Facebook page of Dr. Mohamed Saad Katatni, Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) Chairman, reported that the health of Mahdi Akef, former Chairman of the Muslim Brotherhood and the President of the Muslim Brotherhood NGO, is deteriorating in prison.

The official page said, according to Muaaz Katatni, the son of the FJP Chairman held in Tora Prison: "In the last visit to my father, I learned that the health of the great leader Mahdi Akef, 86, is deteriorating”.

Muaaz Katatni pointed that all prisoners, including Mahdi Akef, are held in solitary confinement for 22 hours a day – amid repressive and brutal treatment that deliberately targets coup opponents, although they have not been convicted of any of the fabricated charges brought against them, which are still under investigation. He wished all prisoners good health, speedy recovery, and retribution against all their oppressors.
