Brotherhood Chairman Vows Continued Work for Egypt Freedom Even in Hardship, Tragedy

Although heinous coup security forces shot his son dead with live bullets to the head and eye, and although he is still being held captive in the junta’s jails, Mohamed Badie vows to work selflessly for all Egyptians’ rights and freedoms.

South Cairo Criminal Court, headed by Judge Mustafa Salama, in a session held at the Police Academy in Torah, stepped down from the farcical trial of Dr. Mohamed Badie, Muslim Brotherhood Chairman, and his two deputies Khairat Al-Shater and Rashad Al –Bayoumi, and others.

Earlier, South Cairo Criminal Court, headed by Judge Mohamed Amin Armouti, withdrew from the first hearing of the same case because there was no evidence or information to convict the defendants. At the time, the court claimed ‘embarrassment’ as the reason for stepping down.

Following the first session of their farcical trial, in the case relating to clashes outside the Guidance Bureau, Dr. Mohamed Badie said: "Egypt tasted sweet freedom, dignity and pride, with President Morsi, after the January 2011 Revolution. Egyptians will not give up any of those ever again.

"The putschists killed my son as he chanted in a peaceful protest for the freedom of Egypt. They think his death and my detention will distract me from working for the freedom of all Egyptians. By God, we will never be too pre-occupied by anything for that."

Dr. Mohamed Beltagy, leading member of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), during the first hearing of his trial, along with others, in the same case as Badie, said: "Ousted Mubarak is back, administering the affairs of this country... General Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi, the defense minister, betrayed democracy and legitimacy".

Dr. Saad Katatni and Khairat Al-Shater, also appeared for the first time since they were detained by the junta. They chanted: "Down with military rule" and "Down with the State Security apparatus", as they waved their hands in the Rabaa four-finger defiance gesture.

Dr. Saad Katatni said: "We have no personal interests or issues. Our cause is about overthrowing the coup, freedom for the Egyptian people and the right of the martyrs. We will never give these up".
