Dr. Mohamed Beltagy, member of the Executive Office of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), called upon the National Council for Human Rights and Egypt’s rights organizations to mourn the death of human rights, the law and values ​​of justice which were all buried by the fascist murderous military coup.

In a letter from his solitary confinement cell at the detention camp in the heavily guarded Aqrab (Scorpion) Prison, and after six days of his continuing hunger strike, Dr. Beltagy said the junta robbed him of his right to communicate with his family in weekly visits guaranteed by law for any prisoner, noting that he is a political prisoner in provisional detention, against whom no judgments were issued.

In his letter, which was published on his page on Facebook, Dr. Beltagy further said: "The Scorpion Prison administration – under direct supervision from the Interior Ministry Assistant Secretary for Prisons, and upon instructions from the National Security Agency (State Police) – moved me to a cell that can only be described as a tomb, solid walls on all sides, and no light ever enters from any direction. It has no lighting either. A National Security officer closed the only opening in the door. Now, the cell is air-tight. I need to get close to the bottom of the cell door to be able to breath. No other human enters this entire section".

He stressed that he cannot find a reason for the "retaliatory and selective treatment" practiced against him or for this "negative discrimination" against him as a political prisoner, except that the National Security apparatus and the military establishment are taking the opportunity to avenge his role since 2005 as a member of Parliament and contributor to the people’s movement against ousted Mubarak’s regime. At the time, Dr. Beltagy demanded the people's right to freedom, dignity and justice. He also played an important and well-known role in the January 25, 2011 Revolution, which the coup overturned. The junta is now persecuting this Revolutions’ icons.
