Pro-Democracy National Alliance in Dakahlia Condemns 14-Year Old Maria Samaha Jail Sentence

In a glaring example of the mad military junta's justice, or lack of it, a 14-year old girl is sentenced to one year in prison and is hit with a hefty fine, for standing in a human chain in peaceful protest against the repressive regime.

Lawyers and legal experts as well as the people of Dakahlia (to the north east of Cairo) were shocked at the juvenile court harsh sentencing of a local minor called Maria Samaha to one year imprisonment and a fine of twenty thousand Egyptian pounds (about US$2900) for joining a human chain protesting the ruinous coup in Egypt.

Maria Samaha is a fourteen-year-old female student in the first grade of high school. She was abducted by Mustafa Almohandes, a City Council employee, who handed her over to the police on December 18, 2013. The military junta's prosecution service held her in custody since that date.

The verdict against her is a black mark of shame on the Egyptian judiciary, whose judges have no qualms bullying children to satisfy their heinous putschist masters. They create a ring of persecution, oppression and injustice for the murderous military junta in the name of the law.

The Anti-Coup Pro-Legitimacy National Alliance strongly condemns this verdict. It stresses that such harsh sentencing will only increase the Egyptian people's resolve and determination to defeat and reverse this brutal bloody coup.

The people will go boldly forth, men and women – elderly, youths and children, until they reclaim their freedom and their January 25 Revolution.

The moment of truth is approaching fast, God willing.

Then, the unjust oppressors will see what destiny they will ultimately meet.
