Qutb Al-Arabi, journalist, writer and Muslim Brotherhood leader, said that the release of Alaa Abdel-Fattah and his colleagues on Monday was no favor from junta justice, but normal process, while the abnormal was the locking up of Abdel-Fattah and other political leaders for allegedly breaking the unconstitutional anti-protest law.

On his Facebook page, Al-Arabi said: "Abdel-Fattah and thousands of others were jailed not for personal issues, but for their defense of the dignity of the people and the freedom of the homeland.

"In releasing Abdel-Fattah and his mates Monday, the court did the right thing that all venerable courts should do."

Al-Arabi added: "My sincere congratulations to Alaa Abdel-Fattah, his good mates, and his family, who did not confine their support to the cause of their son, but extended their hands in defense of other detainees, even those who did not share their political orientation.

"Freedom for all prisoners: liberals, leftists or Islamists... Freedom for all Egyptians... Down with repressive military rule."
