Students Freedom Observatory (SFO) strongly condemned the latest crackdown on students’ freedom at the beginning of the school year across Egypt’s universities. Police forces raided the homes of hundreds of students, and symbols of the student movement, unions arresting dozens.

SFO expressed its concern over the status of public freedoms, and human rights in Egypt in light of the dozens of arbitrary arrests among students from all political factions, demanding the immediate release of all detainees. SFO also called on human rights organizations and international bodies to take action to stop violations against student movement, which threaten the independence of universities and the future of student rights and freedoms in Egypt.

The Observatory also warned of the growing phenomenon of the brutal security crackdown on students and the student movement in general, and narrow the public domain in the expression of opinion in all walks of life in Egypt.

According to Students Against the Coup (SAC) listed the names of 46 university students who have been arrested by police forces, some were picked up from their homes and outside school campuses.
