Rights Organizations Launch 'Close Aqrab Prison' Campaign
A number of human rights organizations join hands in a bid to use force of law to persuade the military-appointed ruling regime in Egypt to close Aqrab Prison, one of the country's most notorious jails.

A press conference was held on Tuesday, at the Hisham Mubarak Law Center (HMLC), for the launch of #اغلقوا_العقرب (Arabic for Close Aqrab Prison) campaign by seven Egyptian human rights organizations.

The press conference follows a lawsuit filed by human rights organizations and lawyers in the administrative court to compel the Minister of Interior, the Minister of Justice and the Presidency to close Aqrab Prison for violating prison requirements according to Prison Service rules, the Criminal Code and the successive Egyptian Constitutions as well as international agreements signed by Egypt in this regard.

Participants in the campaign are HMLC, the Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedoms, the Egyptian Coordinating Committee of Rights and Freedom, Defense of the Oppressed Foundation, and the Arab Observatory for Media Freedom and Freedom of Thought and Expression.
