Political detainees held at Borg Al-Arab Prison, in Alexandria (Egypt), sent an urgent message complaining that some prison officers search their cells in an unacceptable inhumane manner, using police dogs and brutal beatings of detainees. Detainees in Borg prison urge concerned organizations to intervene quickly to stop the violations threatening their safety and right to life.

According to a plea we received from Borg prison detainees, these assaults on them take place under the supervision and by orders of Borg Al-Arab Prison's chief inspector, who personally pours the most grotesque and profane insults on political prisoners.

Moreover, the prison administration has cut off electricity to the cells of political prisoners; security forces abducted 10 detainees from their cells, after assaulting them Monday; and special forces made attempts to break into the rest of the prison's cells.

Shehab Center for Human Rights (SCHR) holds Borg Al-Arab Prison administration responsible for the safety of detainees. It denounces the assaults, beatings and other illegal practices carried out by prison officers. SCHR stresses the right of detainees to take the necessary legal action against the prison officers who engage in such violations.
