The Higher State Security Prosecution on Saturday July 1, 2006, decided to extend for another 15 days the detention of 43 Muslim Brotherhood members including former members of parliament Dr. Esam el Eryan and Dr. Mohammed Morsy, who were arrested along others while participating in the recent demonstrations staged in support of the judges.

In a statement to Ikhwanweb, MB Secretary General Dr. Mahmoud Ezzat said that the extension of detention for these  MB prominent members and hundred others will not dissuade the Muslim Brotherhood from continuing its march of reform, attributing these sacrifices offered by the Muslim      Brotherhood to their efforts in pursuit of reform.

For his part, MB Executive Council Member, Dr. Abdul-Monem Abul-Fotouh, said in a statement to Ikhwanweb that extension of detention for MB members is a clear example of how the emergency law is used by the authorities to single out the opposition and restrict freedom of expression. Abul Fetough warned that the authorities’ tough attitude toward peaceful demonstrations will give the extremist groups a pretext to maintain acts of violence, which we have always rejected and  warned the government of its serious repercussions."
