Dr. Abdul-Moneim Abu el-Fotouh, member of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Guidance Office, the top executive body of the MB, affirmed that the campaign of detentions is a continuation of the Egyptian regime’s policy aimed at disorienting the MB, perturbing its activities and preventing it from exercising the constitutional and legal rights that guarantee the freedom of expression and assembly.
The Egyptian regime has been waging a campaign of arrests against the Muslim Brotherhood for about a month, in the latest wave of arrests against its members following the big support the MB received from electorate in the last parliamentarian elections, when it won 20 percent of the seats of parliament despite police severe repression against it. The total number of detainees is now more than 40, including prominent top and middle-level leaders of the MB, at the head of whom is Prof. Rasahad el-Bayyoumi, member of the Guidance Office. |
