Statement of the Jordanian Muslim Brotherhood

The Jordanian government referred Gameel Abu Bakr, the Sectary General of the Islamic Work Front Party, to the court of the State Security on charges of publishing some materials, affiliated to some Jordanian MPs, on the party’s internet site.

The Jordanian government referred Gameel Abu Bakr, the Sectary General of the Islamic Work Front Party, to the court of the State Security on charges of publishing some materials, affiliated to some Jordanian MPs, on the party’s internet site.
 
The Muslim Brotherhood is very regretful on such act, considering it a coercive procedure that illustrates that the constructive criticism is unwelcome by the government which employs law to ban parties from the political participation. 
 
The subject, on which Abu Bakr is trying, is attributed to some MPs and has been published in media. In other words, it is not outlawed. Abu Bakr’s trial, in addition, is not of service to the country. It contradicts the government-adopted slogans concerning the fundamental freedom and the protection of citizens’ rights along with the political parties, in accordance with the Jordanian constitution.    
 
Therefore, I call on suspending the case and stopping Gameel’s trail. Moreover, I exhort the government to take further measures to foster the public and partisan freedom for the interest of the country and the nation.
