During yesterday’s stormy meeting of the Egyptian Judges Union, Counselor Zakria Abdel Aziz, the Union’s Chairman, warned the government against the continuation of assaults against election monitoring judges. He vowed to make the coming session of the union’s General Assembly a trial for the government and to stage a sit-in in the union till it hands in its resignation.
 
The meeting was attended by Counselors Ahmed Meky and Mahmmud el-Khadary, the presidents of Election Evaluation Commission along with 250 judges. Judges accused the government of not fulfilling the agreement pertaining to judges’ protection and to have free polls. Essam Hussein, the Undersecretary of Justice Ministry, addressed the gathering underlining the government eagerness to safeguard judges. However, Counselor Abdel Aziz remarked that this promise was repeatedly said but without actual evidence. 
 
Ahmed Meky called on the undersecretary to implement the accord of allowing electorate to cast vote freely, of announcing the result of counting each polling box, and of providing copies of electoral registers. In addition, some participants called for Wednesday’s poll boycott since its results will be fraudulent. Yet, the union’s leadership proclaimed that boycott should be decided by the general assembly.
 
Unexpected surprise sounded the meeting when Counselor Muhammad Yusseif, undersecretary of Administrative Prosecution, disclosed that he was enforced to rig the outcome of the second commission of el-Mahmmudia constituency in el-Behaira province. He added this incident has been reported in official records. Moreover, he announced his withdrawal form monitoring Wednesday’s run-offs.
 
Ahmed Meky concluded the session by emphasizing the need for activating the agreement made with the justice Minister and in accordance with the president’s directions. He said voters should be protected as well.
